This is a pretty good list! Watch out for the dairy though.. it can cause bloating, especially if you are lactose intolerant. Also.. they show deli meat in the picture of “turkey and other lean meats”… avoid deli meats just because most of them are processed and full of sodium/preservatives. Try boneless/skinless chicken breast or lean ground turkey on your sandwiches instead! Lastly.. choose old-fashioned or steel-cut oats over instant.. Steel cut oats leave more of the bran intact, which increases the fiber content. Instant oats tend to go through more processing. =)

It has been claimed that the so-called “Buddha Boy” has been sitting under a pipal tree in uninterrupted meditation since May of 2005. Checkboxes, bitches.

When you create an app, it should declare which permissions it actually requires to function (disabled, ticked checkbox) and which it desires by default (ticked checkbox.)

Everything not required is optional/user definable.

Permission to posting a tweet is separate from other, private profile writing operations, since it’s so socially destructive.

Apps would never be allowed to require posting permission (if denied, they fall back to generating a URL the user can use to manually post through the Twitter website.)

I think this also makes the permissions/capabilities copy clearer. Bonus.

Steve Jobs news rockets across the social web: Early yesterday evening, we started seeing several Steve Jobs rumors floating around Twitter. But when Breaking News editor Stephanie Clary (@sclary) saw the sad news confirmed in an Associated Press alert, she published a six-word tweet seconds later, sparking shock and disbelief across Twitter.

In fact, that tweet was RT’d more times than any other tweet in @breakingnews history: nearly 11,000 times, according to Twitter analytics. Subsequent tweets were shared thousands of times, as well. And @breakingnews added over 10,000 new followers yesterday alone.

We also simultaneously published the news on Facebook, Google+ and Tumblr. In each case, the story was one of our most-shared and commented ever. We collected some of the reaction on BreakingNews.com.

The social outpouring exemplifies how Steve Jobs touched so many lives in a profound way. We’ve heard from several people who first discovered the news on their mobile devices, either via Twitter, Facebook or by a “push alert” from apps by Breaking News and other news organizations. Then quickly, they shared the news with their friends — sometimes with their own memories of Jobs — propelling the story around the world.

Pretty Hype Machine, Zoya Feldman 2011

While chatting at my apartment recently, we realized that we all have a tremendous appreciation of the first major release by Nine Inch Nails, Pretty Hate Machine, from 1989 (22 years ago!).

The more we talked about it, the more we wanted to pay homage to the album on our site. Recreating the unique analog style was quite difficult (Rob Sheridan will agree), but nothing worthwhile is easy.

This is as much a tribute to the record as to Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor overall. He has innovated relentlessly over the past 20 years, inventing some of what we now take for granted as music fans. The incredibly produced live shows, being the first major artist to run a remix contest & subsequent community (whole companies have been built on this idea later), among the first to do paperless concerts with Ticketmaster, and more things I can’t think of right now. Oh yeah, The Social Network soundtrack was great too.

There are many great artists, but few continuously pay attention to all facets of their output with as much attention and creativity, even after reaching multiple levels of success.

I apologize for the title. But it’s no less accurate than this embarassing, poorly-reasoned article by Ted Dziuba. It’s flamebait, but I couldn’t resist. Sigh…here we go.

First, Ted takes issue with this claim on Node’s homepage:
